Basic education in the arts in crafts develops expressive skills, mastery of materials and techniques, and deepens the adult learner’s personal relationship with crafts, design and art. The studies also strengthen technological competence, and the multiliteracy developed during the programme supports students’ critical thinking.
– Studies offer visual inspiration, the joy of discovery, and paths to personal expression, summarises Ulla Tujula, teacher responsible for basic education in the arts in crafts.
The studies are suitable for those interested in creativity and developing their own expression, who have the time to commit to structured, goal-oriented studies.
– In addition to enthusiasm and interest, the studies require commitment to a long-term and goal-oriented hobby. At the same time, students gain the support of a wonderful group interested in crafts and art, as well as high-quality teaching, Tujula explains.
The basic studies take approximately four years to complete, and the advanced studies about 2.5 years. Admission is based on applications submitted via the application form, and students are accepted in the order of application. The studies are conducted in Finnish.
The new group starting in autumn will meet on Monday evenings. The studies begin with an information session on Monday 24 August 2026 from 17:15 to 20:15 at Vuorentausta upper secondary school in Ylöjärvi.
In addition to being a hobby, the studies in basic education in the arts in crafts can also be used, for example, as professional continuing education supporting one’s work. The programme is intended for adults aged 18 and over.
Upon completion, students receive a certificate in accordance with the national core curriculum confirmed by the Finnish National Agency for Education.
