Afternoon activities at schools

First and second grade students who have a necessary need due to their guardian's work or studies, or some other special reason, can apply for afternoon activities.

Those applying for a place for a special reason must submit an explanation of the need for the activity with their application. The explanation can be provided by an expert familiar with the child's situation. The explanation of the special reason must be submitted to the school principal. Places in the club are granted for one school year at a time.

From the start of the 2026-2027 school year, afternoon activities are intended for 1st and 2nd grade pupils and for pupils with a disability, illness or functional limitation that affects their learning ability. In addition, the child must have a need or special reason for afternoon activities due to the guardian's work or studies.

A special reason requires that, in addition to the guardian, a member of the pedagogical support team familiar with the child's situation provides a sufficient explanation or assessment of the need.

Afternoon activities are also offered to children participating in bilingual preschool education.

Afternoon activities will be organized from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. 

In all locations, a snack will be provided to children around 2:00 PM.

On March 11, 2025, the Education and Training Committee approved (FI) new customer fees for afternoon activities and the criteria for fee exemptions, which came into effect on August 1, 2025. You may apply for a place in the afternoon activity club as soon as it is known what school the child will attend.

Instructions for the guardian:

1. Enrol your child in school as soon as you know the day on which you move. Use this link to enrol in basic education.

In Tampere, afternoon activities are also offered by private service providers. The Tampere Evangelical Lutheran Parish organizes afternoon activities for students of Koivisto School at their own location, Koivistonkylä Parish Hall, Koivistontie 46.

YMCA Tampere ry organizes afternoon activities at five schools: Messukylä, Tammela, Olkahinen, Vuores, and Hatanpää.

Applications for afternoon activities provided by private service providers are submitted using the same application form as for the city's afternoon activities.

The organization of afternoon activities is the responsibility of Koivisto School. A place in the Normaalikoulu afternoon activities can be applied for using the same application form as for the Tampere city's afternoon activities.

For inquiries about the Normaalikoulu afternoon activities, you can contact the principal of Koivisto School Minna Viskari or the corresponding school secretary Katri Sirkiä.

After the spring application period for afternoon activities, the place can be canceled free of charge until July 31, 2026.

Once the activities have started, the place can also be terminated during the school year. For example, if the place is terminated on August 10, the fee for August will be charged and the termination will take effect from the beginning of September. No monthly fee will be charged for September.
