Pre-primary education

Welcome to pre-primary education!

Pre-primary education, also known as preschool or, in colloquial Finnish, eskari, is an activity that supports a child’s learning, participation, development and growth. Pre-primary education works to strengthen a child’s self-esteem and to provide positive learning experiences, as well as opportunities for many kinds of interaction with their peers.

In Tampere, pre-primary education is organized by the early childhood education and pre-primary education services. The pre-primary education groups mainly operate in conjunction with schools.

Since 2015, it is compulsory to participate in pre-primary education. It is the duty of the child’s guardian or custodian to ensure the child participates in pre-primary education or other activities that substantially fulfil its educational goals.
