Older People's Council

The Older People’s Council is a statutory advisory body of the City of Tampere. It brings the perspectives of older residents of Tampere into the City’s decision-making and the development of services. The Council monitors matters affecting the wellbeing of older people, submits initiatives and statements, and contributes to the City’s planning.

What does the Older People’s Council do?

The Older People’s Council brings the perspectives of older people into the City’s decision-making. Its role is to promote the wellbeing and participation of older people and their equal opportunities to take part in city life.

The Older People’s Council contributes to issues including housing, mobility, the urban environment, safety, wellbeing, participation and the development of services. It monitors matters that affect the everyday lives of older people, submits initiatives and statements, and ensures that their views are reflected in the City’s planning and decision-making.

The Older People’s Council considers matters while they are still being prepared. The aim is to ensure that the needs, experiences and perspectives of older people are taken into account before decisions are made. In this way, the Council helps to make Tampere a good place to grow older.

The Older People’s Council gives older people a voice and provides a channel for cooperation between the City, organisations and residents. Its work supports the development of an age-friendly, safe and accessible city for everyone in Tampere.
