Library equipment for customer use

You can print in all Tampere libraries. Most libraries have a multifunctional device for printing, copying and scanning. There is a charge for printing and copying. Scanning to a memory stick or e-mail is free of charge. 

Copies and prints are paid for by the balance on the library card. Each card has a starting balance of €1.00. Additional balances can be loaded at all Tampere City Libraries with a cash desk (except in Koivistonkylä, Koukkuniemi, Nekala, Terälahti, and Vuores). 

The library has equipment for digitising and editing. The equipment is available in different libraries. Read more about the equipment and digitisation possibilities.

There are Russian keyboards in the Main Library Metso, Hervanta Library, and Sampola Library.

The Hervanta Library also has an Arabic keyboard.

In Lielahti Library you can borrow a laptop for your own use in the library premises. In addition to the library card, a photo ID is required for borrowing.

The SeutuOpen network

The Main Library Metso and Hervanta, Koilliskeskus, Sampola and Tesoma Libraries have access to the SeutuOpen wireless network. It does not require separate usernames and passwords. By accepting the terms and conditions of the service, you can access the wireless network. Library e-services are also available on the SeutuOpen network.

Seutu Wireless network

The Seutu Wireless network is available free of charge in all the branches of Tampere City Library.
 You can log on to the network either by SMS or e-mail.

The login is valid for 12 hours. By logging in to the library's wireless network, you can also access the library's e-services (e.g. e-resources, databases) on your own device in the library.

Connecting to the Seutu Wireless network

1. Connect your device to the Seutu Wireless network and open the Internet browser if it does not open automatically.
2. Select the verification method "Email" or "SMS" (text message). If you select the "SMS" option, go to section 8 of this manual.
3. Enter your e-mail address in the field provided, accept the terms of use and click "Continue".
4. Read and follow the instructions in the email verification window that appears and act accordingly. You can then close the window.
5. Check your own email on your device. Click on the link in your email to verify your address.
6. After clicking the link, click ‘Verify’ to complete the verification.
7. The verification is complete and you now have access to the Seutu Wireless network for the following 12 hours.
8. If you selected ’SMS’ as the verification method in step 2, please continue from here.
9. Enter your telephone number in the field provided, accept the terms and conditions and click ‘Continue’.
10. Check the SMS message received on the phone number you provided.  Click on the link in the SMS to verify your contact details.
11. After clicking the link, click ‘Verify’ to complete the verification.
12. The verification is complete and you now have access to the Seutu Wireless network for the following 12 hours.

The microfilm room on the ground floor of the Main Library Metso has two microfilm scanners. The devices can read both microfilm and microcards. The devices can be booked (for maximum of 3 hours) through the customer computer booking system.

Recording and printing

Microfilms can be copied for a fee using the library's printing system, or the information can be stored on your own USB stick.

Use of the microfilm room is self-service. If you wish, you can book guidance on the use of the equipment.

Game consoles

The Lielahti, and Tesoma Libraries, as well as the Metso Main Library have game consoles. VR2 virtual reality glasses (not for children under 12) are also available at Metso Main Library.

The games rooms are booked through the customer computer booking system.

On the main floor of the Main Library Metso, next to the customer copy machine, there is a shredder for customer use. The shredder can be used to shred paper (approx. 10 sheets at one time).  It is a good idea to remove paper clips and staples from the papers before shredding. 

Paper documents can be scanned into electronic format. Scanning is free of charge.

Libraries have multifunctional devices for printing, copying, and scanning.  Multifunctional devices can be used to scan A4 and A3 size directly to e-mail or memory stick.

Some libraries have separate scanners connected to computers: Main Library Metso, Hervanta, Kaukajärvi, Lielahti, Messukylä, and Sampola Libraries. Book a computer and a scanner on the booking system. The scanner machines are marked with the letter S.

The scanners connected to computers can also be used to scan slides and negatives.

Please note that scanner models and guidance resources vary from library to library. You should check in advance, either by phone or on the spot, what scanning facilities are available in your library.

The Main Library Metso's newspaper reading room has a magnifier with a 24-inch screen. It allows you to enlarge the text to be read several sizes larger than the original. The model is Optelec Clear VieW C HD.

The device includes a movable table top, which allows, for example, reading a newspaper from top to bottom without folding the paper.

The Hervanta Library has tablets for customer use. The tablet can be accessed from the rack with a library card and an its PIN code.  The tablets only work on the library’s premises.

The tablet can be used for 1 hour. When the tablet is returned to the rack, all data stored on the tablet during the loan period gets automatically deleted from the device.

If the customer has €10.00 or more in outstanding fees in the library system, the tablet cannot be borrowed and it will not be released from the rack.

Tablets and docks are fitted with antibacterial protective film.

The Hervanta, and Sampola libraries have a recording Blu-ray player for customer use.
