Are you interested in learning how you can express yourself and bring about change in issues that matter to you? Join us to be inspired by the various ways you can bring your ideas to the forefront and make them visible.

During this four-evening course, you’ll meet new people and hear inspiring stories of advocacy from, among others, youth representatives, organizers of the Lempeä Open Stage event, and the team at Rare Media, who produce journalistic social media content. You’ll also get to try out creative ways to express your opinions. During the course, we’ll delve into the theme through community and literary arts, music, and social media. We’ll write poetry and rap during the course. We’ll also visit Hirvitalo, the Pispala Center for Contemporary Art, and get to know its community-oriented atmosphere. The course is limited to 15 participants, accepted in the order or registration. The course will be led by youth counselor Ulla Taponen. The course will be conducted in Finnish.

T-pop dance course

T-pop, or Thai Pop, refers to Thai pop music and the pop culture that has developed around it. If you’re familiar with K-pop, you’ll find a lot in common with T-pop: choreographed routines by artists and groups, spectacular performances, and energetic pop music. In this course, you’ll get to know Thai artists and their music through dance! 

The course focuses on learning original choreographies by Thai pop artists and groups. Over the course of three sessions, you’ll learn two choreographies, practice dancing and performing in a group, and have fun dancing. Depending on the participants’ wishes, the classes may also include activities such as Random Play Dance, performing for others, or reviewing dance technique. 

This is an open-level course, so anyone can join regardless of their dance background. The classes focus on learning the choreographies, so previous dance experience may be helpful but is not required. You’ll need to bring: comfortable clothes that allow for easy movement, indoor athletic shoes, and a water bottle. The instructor is dancer Venla Parviainen. The course is limited to 30 participants in the order of registration. The course will be instructed in English.

This course introduces the basics of digital drawing through the anime style. Participants will practice drawing, coloring, and shading characters, as well as designing their own character or a short comic strip. The course is suitable for both beginners and those who have already done some drawing; no prior experience with digital drawing is required. The course is conducted in English. The course is led by artist and tattoo artist Leo Pulkkinen (Leorppa). The course has a total capacity of 12 participants. Eight Android tablets are available for loan, and there are also four spots reserved for participants who have their own tablets.

Discover how K-pop connects with the Korean language and culture! In this beginner-​friendly course, you'll learn basic Korean expressions, explore Korean culture through K-pop, and even sing a K-pop song together.  No previous knowledge of Korean is needed. The course is instructed in English by Korean language teacher Jiyeon Lee. 18 participants will be accepted in order of registration.

Luovasti workshops are free, non-stop workshops for 9- to 28-year-olds to learn about different techniques and materials. No advance registration is required; the workshops take place during regular weekly hours. The workshops are free of charge.

Tue, Aug. 21: Jewelry Weaving
2:00–8:00 p.m. (nonstop), Ateljee, 3rd floor
Join us for a jewelry weaving workshop to design and create your own unique piece of jewelry! In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of jewelry weaving and get to bring your own ideas to life using beads and threads. No prior experience is necessary, as the instructor will guide you through each step of the process. Some materials are available free of charge. However, if you wish, you can also choose to use paid beads for your jewelry.

Tue, Sept. 1: Glass Fusing on Ceramics
2:00–8:00 p.m. (nonstop), Keramiikka, 3rd floor
Come try the glass fusing technique on ceramics! During firing, the glass melts and forms a shiny, crackled surface on the objects. You can apply glass fusing to your own bisque-fired decorative objects and jewelry. The workshop is free of charge.

Tue, Oct. 6: A New Look for Rainwear and Umbrellas
2:00–8:00 p.m. (nonstop), Verstas, 3rd floor
Does your worn-out rainwear need a fresh new look? On the Luovasti day at the workshop, we’ll polish and maintain all kinds of rainwear, and if you’d like, you can paint them with new designs. You can also decorate your rainwear and rubber boots with various patches, rivets, and reflective fabric. Bring your own rain gear. The workshop also has a small selection of new umbrellas available for €8 each; the workshop is free of charge otherwise.
