Terminating a place in early childhood education and care

Terminating municipal early childhood education and care

We recommend you notify the city of your intent to terminate care at least two weeks prior to ending the care. The termination can be conducted over the early childhood education and care online service. In addition, you should contact the care provider venue itself.

Terminating the placement in early childhood education and care will end the care relationship as well as the placement decision. Any transfer applications to another unit that may have previously been filed will also be deprecated by the termination.

If a new need for care surfaces in your family after termination, a new application for early childhood education and care should be filed no later than four months before the desired date for beginning care. If the need for early childhood education is due to employment, studies or training, and it has not been possible to anticipate the need for care, an early childhood education place must be sought as soon as possible – however, no later than two weeks before the child needs the place.

Terminating a place in a service voucher daycare centre

A place in a service voucher daycare centre should be terminated by directly communicating with the daycare centre, who will agree on the final date of care with you. In private early childhood education and care, a contractual notice period of at least one month is normally observed.

If you cannot use the online service, it is possible to file your termination using a paper form. Return the form to the child’s venue of care.
