Hiedanranta - A new urban way of life

Hiedanranta is being developed into Tampere’s western city centre and a vibrant cultural neighborhood for approximately 20,000 residents. Here, residents will live alongside a tram line and lakeside nature. The area has a colorful history and a diverse future as a new kind of neighborhood. The first residents will move to Hiedanranta in August 2026.

The development of the Hiedanranta district takes into account climate considerations and diversity, as well as a sense of community and equality in everyday life. Hiedanranta is Finland’s first environmentally certified district. Relying on public transportation, Hiedanranta serves as a transportation hub in western Tampere. The tram ride to the Tampere city centre takes just 12 minutes.

At the heart of Hiedanranta stands Tehdas, which is becoming the district’s city centre of creative life, enriching the lives of residents and visitors alike with its offerings. The old factory buildings are being renovated for new uses. At Tehdas, publicly funded and produced cultural services are intertwined with creative entrepreneurship, the experience economy, and leisure services. In Hiedanranta, urban culture and public art are accessible to everyone.

Hiedanrannan Kehitys Oy owns the former factory site and is responsible for developing and transforming the area into an attractive district. The company’s goal is to implement sustainable urban structure solutions as part of its area and real estate development.

The City of Tampere owns the Lielahti Manor as well as the Hiedanranta School and Sports Park areas. Hiedanrannan Kehitys Oy works in close collaboration with the City of Tampere’s planning department, the Hiedanranta development programme, and the landowners.
