Selection criteria
The principles of student admissions have been approved by the Tampere Education and Upbringing Committee. School transportation is only available for primary student admissions. The subject-emphasis education is always secondary to student admission. In the city of Tampere, the right to school transport is only granted to primary student admissions. The school trips are also at their own expense for students studying in subject-emphasized curricula.
Only students who achieve the confirmed minimum score in the aptitude test can be accepted into the subject emphasis programs. The minimum score for all subject emphasis programs is at least 60 percent of the total points of the aptitude test. Students are selected for the subject emphasis programs based on their test scores only, and priority is given to students living in Tampere.
Students living in other cities can also apply for the subject emphasis education in City of Tampere basic education. These students can be selected if there are student places available in the school’s teaching groups after all Tampere residents who achieved the confirmed minimum score threshold in the aptitude test, and the student meets the selection criteria for the subject emphasis education.
If a student living in another municipality is selected for the subject emphasis education, the student’s guardian is responsible for the student’s school transportation and related costs. The student’s siblings do not have the right to attend the same school based on sibling criteria.
Teaching in the subject-emphasis curriculum will be provided only if a minimum number of pupils are accepted. The pupils undergoing a subject-emphasis curriculum need not necessarily be organized in a separate class, so the accepted pupils can be assigned to classes as the school sees fit.
