In City of Tampere basic education, cooperation with businesses and working life are an integral part of school learning. The close relationship with working life is evident in basic education through visits, learning content, and events.
We collaborate with a variety of actors in working life and entrepreneurship education as well as associated with working life itself.
The purpose of the TET work practice programme is to provide pupils with examples of various professions. During the TET period, the pupil gets to see and experience working life.
How TET is practically carried out varies by school. In the seventh grade, the usual manner is to practice the duties of school staff. TET would then encompass, for example, a day or two of assisting the school custodian or cook. In the eighth grade, pupils will be able to take a first look at what working life outside the school is like, as appropriate to the school’s schedules. Not all schools have a dedicated TET period in the eighth grade. Ninth-graders in Tampere get to familiarise themselves with working life for two weeks. The pupil will be able to get to know what life is like in a business and to perform auxiliary tasks.
A City of Tampere basic education TET website is under construction. Businesses can register for the TET marketplace through the Businesses tab. The goal is for eighth graders to be able to apply for TET locations in the spring of 2022 using the new website.
Working life skills and entrepreneurship constitute one of the transversal competence objectives in the national core curriculum. Every subject works to promote these transversal competence skills in their own way. Mastering these objectives requires command of a variety of skills and fields of information, as well as the ability to synthesize them.
In Tampere basic education schools, sixth and ninth graders take part in the Yrityskylä (Business Village) event. Many schools offer entrepreneurship- and working life -related elective subjects, such as Little Entrepreneurs and A Year as an Entrepreneur.
The Working Life Week takes place annually at the turn of August and September. This is a theme week organized by the Yritteliäs Tampere (Tampere of Entrepreneurship) network, with the city’s early childhood education and care services, basic education services, upper secondary schools, as well as employment and growth services participating. The University of Tampere also collaborates with the events. This theme week encompasses workshops, visits, and competitions related to working life and entrepreneurship, with participants from toddlers to doctors.
