Sports instructors guide you to take the first steps in the right direction towards a more active lifestyle. You will receive support and tips on exercise suitable for your health and hear about different hobby opportunities.

Beginner’s exercise courses

Enrollment for the paid courses will start electronically on 4 August 2026 at 9 am. The groups are available for browsing two weeks before the start of the registration period.  See the link below. 

Gym beginner`s courses

The course is suitable for those starting gym training. The course includes seven guided sessions. The instructor guides in the use of the equipment, ensures safe movement performance, and gives tips for gym training. Includes a training program for the gym.

Getting to Know Asahi - introductory course

Asahi is a form of health-promoting exercise developed in Finland. The movements are performed in an upright position, at a gentle pace, in sync with your own breathing. Asahi is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels, including those with sensory sensitivities, as no music is used during the classes. The introductory course includes six guided sessions.

Liikkuva arki–parempi olo 

Join the Liikkuva arki– parempi olo -kurssi (Active Everyday Life – Better Well-Being course)! The course is intended for those who will be retiring in the near future or who have just retired. The goal of the course is to promote lifestyles that support health and physical activity as you transition into retirement.

There are a total of eight sessions, including an assessment and testing of mobility, information on the importance of nutrition for functional ability, and indoor and outdoor exercise. The course is free of charge. For more information and registration (starting 4 August), visit liikkumaan.tampere.fi.

Wednesdays from 10 am to 11.30 am in the lecture hall at the Tampere Swimming Centre; sessions are on 7 October, 21 October, 4 November, 18 November, 2 December, 13 January, and 27 January, with a follow-up meeting on 10 March.

Gym equipment guidance 

The fitness instructor guides you in using the equipment and gives tips for gym training without an appointment. Entrance fee to the gym. 

  • Hervanta Leisure Centre, Lindforsinkatu 5, Tuesdays from 1.30 pm to 2.30 pm.
  • Autumn season: 31 August 31–13 December, 2026 (excluding Week 42 and weekdays that are public holidays) and spring season: 11 January–16 May, 2027 (excluding Week 9 and weekdays that are public holidays).   

     

Gym equipment guidance is available by appointment at the Tampere Swimming Centre

Guidance includes an introduction to the gym equipment with a sports instructor, lasting about 45 min. Gym entrance fee. Appointment during the Swimming Centre's opening hours. Sports instructors, tel. 040 800 4999.

Autumn season: 31 August 31–13 December (excluding Week 42 and weekdays that are public holidays) and spring season: 11 January–16 May, 2027 (excluding Week 9 and weekdays that are public holidays).  

  • Gym equipment guidance on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 2 pm to 3 pm.

Gyms and outdoor fitness equipment

UKK Walk Tests

The walking test assesses the test subjects' endurance. In the test, you walk a distance of 1 or 2 kilometres on a track or flat terrain as briskly as possible within the limits of your condition and health. You will receive a written fitness assessment from the test. Registration on the spot, participation is free.
