You can use generative AI tools such as chat-GPT and Microsoft Copilot to support your employment search.
CV Review
Compare you CV to a job posting and produce a structured “CV Review”. Use the set of prompts below adding text from your cv and the job ad as shown. Be sure to remove any personal details from your cv text. The outcomes from this are as follows:
- How well your cv matches the role (0–100%)
- B) Your strengths for the role
- C) Areas to improve in your CV
- D) Keywords & phrases to add in your CV
- E) Biggest gaps in your cv related to the role
INPUTS

TASK (PROMPT)
- Extract the job requirements and group them into:
- Must-have skills/experience
- Nice-to-have skills/experience
- Tools/tech (software, platforms, methods)
- Domain knowledge (industry, regulations, context)
- Soft skills & ways of working (stakeholders, communication, autonomy)
- Map my CV evidence to each requirement. Use only what’s explicitly present in my CV text.
- Produce an output with the following sections and formatting:
OUTPUT FORMAT (exact headings)
- Fit Score (0–100%)
- Give a single percentage and a 2–3 sentence justification.
- Explain the scoring briefly (how much is covered + strength of evidence).
- Your strengths in this role (5–8 bullets)
- Each bullet must include: the requirement matched → CV evidence (short quote or reference).
- Prioritize the most important must-haves.
- Areas to improve (5–10 bullets)
- List missing or weak requirements.
- For each gap: suggest an exact CV edit (what to add/change) and where (summary, skills, a specific role bullet).
- If I likely have the skill but it’s not stated, label it as “Not evidenced” and suggest wording.
- Keywords & phrases to add (10–25 items)
- Provide an ATS-friendly keyword list based on the job ad.
- Mark each as: [Already in CV] / [Add] / [Add if true]
- Include tools, methods, deliverables, and role-specific phrases.
- Biggest gaps
- Write exactly like this: “For {Company}’s {Role} role, your biggest gaps are tied to (1) … and (2) …”
- Focus on the two highest-impact weaknesses.
RULES
- Do not invent experience.
- If the job ad is vague, say so and make reasonable assumptions explicit.
- Prefer quantified, outcome-based phrasing when suggesting edits.
Generate insights into your career options
You can use generative AI tools such as chat-GPT and Microsoft Copilot to generate insights into your career options as follows:
Firstly, answer the following questions as comprehensively as possible. The more accurate the information you provide, the more effective the outcomes will be.
- List the technical skills or tools that you are proficient in, e.g., programming languages, graphic design, project management, foreign languages
- List any soft skills that have been critical to your success in your previous roles, e.g., teamwork, communication, problem, solving, interpersonal
- List what are your strengths, and how did they apply in your professional life (based on your work experience)
- In what areas do you see yourself needing to improve to achieve your career goals
- List goals that you want to achieve within the next 1–2 years
- List your education, completed courses, and certifications
- List your work experience and typical tasks and responsibilities (Focus on most recent experience if you have a long work history)
Once you have thoroughly documented your career, skills, and goals based on answering the above questions, you can use AI tools (e.g. Chat-GPT, Co pilot, etc….), to analyse your data and generate insights using the following AI prompts:
