Management of library collections
Page content in brief
Selection and acquisition of materials
In choosing the materials, the residents’ demographics as to their age, occupation and education are considered. The choices are also influenced by the use of the materials and the customers’ acquisition suggestions. No such materials that highlight violence, infringe on human rights or degrade minorities are acquired at the library.
Most of the acquired materials are in Finnish. Materials in Swedish are acquired in relation to how much Swedish materials are used. The demand for materials in English is constantly growing and thereby also the acquirement thereof. Some materials in the languages spoken by immigrants are also acquired. Materials related to the Tampere Region are acquired in particular.
Donations
The library does not accept donations, except from creators of new works and their publishers.
