Saturday, 12 September: Hervanta, Makkarajärvi / Viitastenperä lean-to, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.
The terrain around Makkarajärvi is relatively easy to navigate, with boardwalks and trails. A slightly longer guided hike, featuring more challenging terrain with various ascents and descents, departs from Makkarajärvi to the Viitastenperä shelter at approximately 10:20 a.m. You can grill sausages and enjoy a snack at both shelters.
You can make your own way to the shelter. The best way to reach the shelter is via Makkarajärvenkatu, where there is also a tram stop. The trail starts alongside the bike path, where a guide will be on hand to direct you toward Makkarajärvi. Street parking in the area is limited.
Be sure to dress for the weather. A little rain won’t interfere with the activities.
Sunday, 27 September: Teisko – Aitolahti, Kintulammi, 12 noon–3 p.m.
The Kintulammi Nature Reserve is located in Teisko-Aitolahti, just over 20 kilometres northeast of downtown Tampere. The shelter event will take place at the Kintulammi lean-to.
Nature-themed activities for children and the young at heart are on the agenda. Be sure to bring your own snacks and weather-appropriate gear. A light drizzle won’t interfere with the outing.
Getting to Kintulammi
By car: To reach the area from the direction of Tampere, turn onto Pulesjärventie at the Aitolahti-Sorila intersection. From Pulesjärventie, turn toward the parking areas either onto Kintulammentie (P2 – on the map) or Keltolahdentie (P1 – on the map). When arriving at the Keltolahdentie (P1) parking area, enter “Keltolahdentie 47” into your GPS. When heading to the Kintulammentie parking area, enter “Kintulammentie 378” into your GPS. Please note that parking spaces are limited and the access roads to the area are narrow.
By public transportation: The Nysse Line 90 runs 1–2 times per hour to the Sorila stop (No. 5218). From the stop, it is about a 3-kilometer walk along Pulesjärventie to the trail leading to the area. Of course, you can turn off at the Kintulammentie junction, which is about 1.6 km from the bus stop. Pulesjärventie has fairly heavy traffic, including some heavy vehicles. Walking from the No. 90 bus route is NOT RECOMMENDED, especially with children or large groups, for safety reasons.
By bike: The area is very accessible by bike. The “Järvien reitit” (Lakes Routes) cycling network runs through Teisko in the immediate vicinity of the area. From downtown Tampere, you can follow the bike path all the way to the Aitolahti-Sorila intersection. From the intersection, it is approximately 1.6 km along Pulesjärventie to the Kintulammentie (P2) turn-off leading to the area.
