For entrepreneurs and operators in the food sector

Food control is a regulatory function that supervises the manufacturing and handling of foods, including their import, export, marketing, transport, sales, serving and other handover as well as food sector operators' own-check procedures. For example, you should contact the Food Control Unit when:

• you are setting up a shop, restaurant, kiosk or similar
• you are setting up a food premises
• your food sector operation changes
• you terminate or suspend your food sector operations
• the operator (business ID) changes
• you are planning to import or export foodstuffs
• you sell or serve food from a mobile sales vehicle or stand
• you need more information about own-checks
• you want to report a problem in food quality or the operating conditions of a food business (Notification of a problem, ilppa.fi)
• you suspect that a food has made you ill (Notification of illness, ilppa.fi)
