Mobility for all – a wide range of functional devices on display in the Traffic park on 17 May
The event is organised by the Inclusion Finland's Malike activities and The Finnish Association of People with Physical Disabilities in cooperation with the City of Tampere and Camp Mobility.
Try functional devices for mobility
Malike will provide support solutions to help children with severe disabilities to become pedal car drivers. Separate seat supports are available for those who need support for their mid-section. Foot control is facilitated by the use of pedal cups attached to the pedals. If gripping the wheel is a challenge, gloves with stickers can be used to help.
You can also try out a range of outdoor functional devices, including mountain bike chairs, mountain bikes and special bicycles for children with mobility and visual impairments. There are also cargo bikes to test, which allow older children to be carried on bikes.
– The aim of the event is not only to offer children new experiences, but also to spread awareness of inclusive functional equipment and thereby promote its availability at regional level. The general challenge is that there is not enough information about these tools and they are not available, says Jenny Turunen from Malike.
Children and young people with severe disabilities almost invariably have fewer opportunities than their peers to participate in their local community and do things that are meaningful to them. Living an equal life with personal values includes, for example, the possibility to choose how to move around in their everyday environment.
The theme of National Cycling Week 2025 is Cycling for All. The theme aims to highlight cycling from the perspective of different population groups. The Disability Confederation's annual Easy Mobility Week will be celebrated immediately after Cycling Week from 12 to 18 May.
Mobility equipment is one way of promoting equality.
