Tampere Day programme taking shape – dozens of interesting events in store
Tampere’s 247th birthday will be celebrated during the first weekend of October. The programme is being created through an open call for events in collaboration with residents and various partners – there is still time to submit events for the programme!
A wonderful weekend programme is taking shape, with dozens of interesting events already included.
To celebrate Tampere’s birthday, the city will open the doors to the recently renovated and expanded City Hall on Saturday 3 October from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors will have the opportunity to admire, among other things, the view from the Council Chamber and Birger Kaipiainen’s magnificent Orvokkimeri relief.
The doors of the Old City Hall, located on the edge of the Central Square, will also open for guided tours on Saturday 3 October and Sunday 4 October. The tours will introduce visitors to the history of the Neo-Renaissance building, completed in 1890, and its many stories. Advance registration is required for the tours and will open on 15 September at 12 noon. Each tour can accommodate 25 participants, and places will be filled in the order of registration.
In addition, there is a chance for visitors to explore the city archives’ premises, materials and work in Hervanta through guided tours. Advance registration is also required for these tours.
Submit your event
Submit your event as part of the Tampere Day celebration weekend via the Tampere Event Calendar website. Submissions will be accepted until 12 p.m. on 28 September. Submitted events will be published in the Tampere Event Calendar and on the Tampere Day website. We hope that all Tampere Day events will adhere to the organiser’s own safer space principles.
Instructions for Adding an Event
- Log in to the Tampere Event Calendar at tapahtumat.tampere.fi and create a free user account.
- Create a profile for the event organiser. If you know your organisation already has a profile, ask the profile administrator to add you as an administrator.
- Select “Add” and “Create Event” in the upper-right corner.
- Enter your event details in English and Finnish.
- Enter #TampereenPäivä as the event hashtag. Note: If you do not select this, the event will not be saved under the Tampere Day programme.
- Publish your event.
