A new stage in life, new opportunities – Welcome to the Retirement! event

Have you recently retired, or are you approaching retirement? Join us at Tampere City Hall on Monday 21 September 2026, from 5 pm to 7 pm, for information, practical advice and inspiration to help you make the most of this new chapter in life.

Retirement is a significant life change that can bring a wide range of thoughts and emotions. It may raise questions, create excitement, feel daunting or open up new possibilities. This informal evening event offers information, fresh perspectives and an opportunity to meet others who are at a similar stage of life.

The Retirement! event will take place at Tampere City Hall, Aleksis Kiven katu 14–16 C. The event is aimed at anyone who has recently retired or is approaching retirement.

Admission is free and no advance registration is required. A mocktail and light savoury refreshments will be available for the first 200 attendees. The event will be held in Finnish, but you are welcome to ask questions in English at the information stands.

The programme features inspiring talks by Anne Flinkkilä and Rauno "Rane" Korpi, two Tampere-based experts who have experienced major life transitions themselves. The evening will conclude with a musical performance by Juha Junttu.

Rauno “Rane” Korpi will deliver an inspiring and motivational talk entitled Let's Keep Going – Never Give Up! Information and support on different aspects of everyday life

At the information stands hosted by the City of Tampere and its partners, you can discuss topics relevant to this new stage of life and learn about the services available to support you.

Financial advice

How can you make your income go further when your financial situation changes? What can you do if too much of your income goes towards repaying debts? And what should you consider when preparing a continuing power of attorney or a will?

At this stand, you can discuss financial matters, explore materials on managing your finances and learn about services that provide support with financial issues. Information about the Financial Advice Clinic will also be available. Representatives from the Pirkanmaa Legal Aid Office of the Finnish Legal Services Authority, offering preventive financial advice and public legal aid, as well as preventive financial advice from the Enforcement Authority, will be present.

Adult Education Centre

Discover the best course recommendations for the autumn and explore the wide range of free public lectures on offer. You can also suggest ideas for new courses, give feedback and try your luck at the prize wheel, where you can win theme-related prizes.

Physical activity

Learn about the services offered by the City of Tampere's sports and physical activity services and take part in the Revive Your Nerves exercise session, featuring four simple movements designed to help relieve neck and shoulder pain and numbness in the hands. You can also find out more about the Volunteer Guide service and the Older People on the Move project.

Promoting wellbeing

Wellbeing is built through everyday actions and choices. Even small changes can bring more energy, balance and enjoyment to daily life. At this stand, you can pick up tip cards to help you find practical ways to support your own wellbeing.

Culture

Explore Tampere's rich cultural offering. Information will be available on museum exhibitions and events, as well as the autumn programmes of the City of Tampere's cultural centres.

The event will also feature representatives from the Tampere for All Development Programme, the Council for Older People of Tampere, Sustainable Housing and Construction, and the Pirkanmaa Wellbeing Services County.

The event is organised by the City of Tampere.

Accessibility information for Tampere City Hall

Tampere City Hall is located at Aleksis Kiven katu 14–16 C. The main entrance is through Entrance C.

  • There are two accessible parking spaces in front of City Hall. Additional accessible parking spaces are available at Frenckell Square.
  • A drop-off area is available in front of the main entrance.
  • An audio beacon at the main entrance plays the sound of a nightingale.
  • There is a vestibule at the main entrance. Both doors can be opened using a push button located on a pillar to the right of the outer door.
  • There are no thresholds in the vestibule.
  • Inside, the lobby has a smooth floor surface. The floor in the Näsijärvi Hall is carpeted.
  • A tactile guidance strip in the lobby leads to the accessible toilet facilities and the restaurant, but does not extend all the way to the Näsijärvi Hall.
  • There are two accessible toilets on the ground floor: one in the lobby opposite the information desk, and another in the corridor between Entrance D and the restaurant dining area.
  • A baby care room is located in the corridor between Entrance D and the restaurant dining area.
  • An induction loop system is available on the ground floor of City Hall.
  • Assistance dogs and guide dogs are welcome in the building.

City Hall staff are available to assist with accessibility-related matters when needed.
