The aim of the studies is for students to become familiar with different areas of theatre and gain experience in creating performances and performing. The studies may include, for example, acting, scriptwriting, dramaturgy, directing and visual design. Interaction skills, presence and working together are also central elements.
Children and young people aged 9–17 can apply to basic education in the theatre arts at The Adult Education Centre of the Tampere Region according to their age group.
According to Course Coordinator Marjo Rautiola, who is responsible for theatre arts education at the Centre, theatre offers a safe environment to explore different roles and emotions. It develops presence and teamwork skills and inspires collaborative work.
– Studies are suitable both for natural performers and for those who want to overcome stage fright. If you enjoy generating ideas, stories and imaginary worlds, and want to develop your self-expression and interaction skills, you should apply, Rautiola says.
Applicants must complete the application for their age group by Sunday 31 May 2026. Students are admitted in the order of application.
Groups meet once a week on weekday evenings at Sampola. During the academic year, the groups also create performances.
The courses are taught in Finnish.
Early childhood theatre education is offered through the Centre’s Teatterikärpäset group for children aged 7–9. Registration for Teatterikärpäset begins on Saturday 1 August 2026 on the course website.
