Culture House Laikku’s 2026 exhibitions present intriguing interdisciplinary encounters
In 2026, Laikku Gallery and Laikku Studio will be filled with diverse contemporary art exploring themes such as identity, cultural encounters and interdisciplinary forms of expression. Among other things, the exhibitions feature paintings, photography, installations and glass art. Admission to all exhibitions is free during the opening hours of Culture House Laikku.
January 10 – February 15: Zeynep Kaynar / Jouni Toni
The exhibition year at Culture House Laikku begins with two shows united by an interest in observing different boundaries. In the Studio, Zeynep Kaynar’s exhibition invites reflection on how identity and language can simultaneously break barriers and create new connections in urban space. In the Gallery, Jouni Toni’s paintings mirror the intertwining of digital and physical worlds characteristic of our time.
February 21 – March 29: Andréa Vannucchi / Echoes of Two Homelands – Bohemia Association
Brazilian-born visual artist Andréa Vannucchi, living in Finland, combines photography and installation. Her Studio exhibition emphasizes the need to examine the foundations of existence in an era of environmental crises.
The group exhibition Kahden kotimaan kaikuja (Echoes of Two Homelands) invites viewers to consider how the influence of two cultures is reflected in art and identity. It offers an overview of artists born in the Czech Republic and Slovakia who now live in Finland. The exhibition includes a side program featuring films at Laikku.
April 8 – May 10: Markku Hakala & Mari Käki / Tampere Biennale
The Hiidenkirnu series consists of a video work exploring the expressive space between 23 films and art photography. Markku Hakala and Mari Käki from Ylöjärvi have received international awards for directing, cinematography and renewing film expression.
The Gallery will host Tampere Biennale’s interdisciplinary exhibition curated by composer and researcher Riikka Talvitie, winner of the International Prize for Artistic Research in Music in 2025. The participating artists will be announced later.
May 16 – June 28: Tuulia Iso-Tryykäri / Jussi Lautu
Tuulia Iso-Tryykäri’s oil paintings intertwine everyday materials with the human body, creating compositions that tell new stories. Iso-Tryykäri is a visual artist based in Lappeenranta.
In the Gallery, Jussi Lautu’s IN/VISIBILITY series consists of over one hundred self-portraits of non-binary individuals, exploring the politics of visibility. The work is a kind of collective piece, as the portraits were taken by the individuals themselves.
July 4 – August 16: Minna Soraluoma / Tommi Ketonen
This summer, the Studio overflows with the hidden poetics of romantic pulp fiction as Tampere-based Minna Soraluoma presents Harlequin book sculptures.
In the Gallery, Tommi Ketonen’s glass art shines in the summer light. Ketonen is a multidisciplinary glass artist working in Nuutajärvi.
August 22 – September 27: Hanna Oinonen / Jennifer Lipkin
Hanna Oinonen, a Tampere-based visual artist, works with techniques ranging from cross-stitch to installation. The centerpiece of her exhibition is Floral Wallpaper, a richly decorative work created on-site from surplus flowers and other recycled materials.
Jennifer Lipkin’s exhibition focuses on place, identity and the symbolism of colours. Lipkin is an interdisciplinary artist working at the intersection of sculpture, space and visual art.
October 3 – November 8: Laura Hetemäki / William Dennisuk, Pinja Palviainen, Saara Reinikainen, Heidi Suikkanen, Anni Kristiina
In the Studio, painter Laura Hetemäki explores the materiality and spatiality of paintings and the different time layers of the painting process. Hetemäki works with oil painting and linen weaving.
The Gallery exhibition is dedicated solely to drawing. Five artists approach drawing from different perspectives, but for all of them, drawing is an essential way to understand the world and themselves.
November 14 – December 20: Ville Vuorenmaa / Kenneth Bamberg
In the Studio, Ville Vuorenmaa’s comic-like paintings combine absurd humor with observations on life and the passage of time. Vuorenmaa is a visual artist and songwriter based in Oulu.
Culture House Laikku is honored to present award-winning Kenneth Bamberg’s powerful exhibition as the final show of the year. Christian features photographs and video interviews of men in the Nordic countries who have survived suicide attempts. These stories are not only deeply moving but also full of strength and hope.
All exhibitions at Culture House Laikku are free of charge and open during Laikku’s opening hours.
