Tree felling to begin at Kintulammi hiking and nature reserve

The City of Tampere will start removing hazardous trees at the Kintulammi hiking and nature reserve during the week beginning December 15, 2025. Dead, decaying, and leaning trees will be cut down, particularly near roads, parking areas, and structures.

–  Our main goal with the tree felling work scheduled for December and January is to improve safety and prevent damage, says forest specialist Jussi Järvinen.

Most of the trees will be cleared along the access roads and near parking lots and rental cabins. Marked trees will be felled while hikers and traffic are temporarily stopped, and trails will be closed during the work. These interruptions will be brief, lasting about 5–10 minutes.

– Plans also include clearing two dead spruce clusters along Pulesjärventie, near the Pulesjärventie bridge. While most of the work will be done by loggers, a forestry machine may be used for particularly dangerous trees, Järvinen adds.

According to Järvinen, felled trees within the protected area will be left in the forest as deadwood. The operation will not threaten habitats of endangered species in the area.

The measures at Kintulammi have been planned in cooperation with Tampere’s environmental protection unit and the ELY Centre.
