Welcome to hear and discuss the state of global gender equality development on 8 December to Tampere Hall

The International Gender Equality Prize will be awarded in Tampere on 8 December. As part of the International Gender Equality Prize, the City of Tampere will host an afternoon symposium on the same day from 13:30 to 15:30 at Tampere Hall in Maestro. The event is open to the public and free of charge. Please register for the symposium by 23 November via the link at the end of the article. Limited seating available. This event is in English.

The symposium programme will examine the intensified global backlash against gender equality seen in recent years. Experts will delve into the background and impacts of this phenomenon, particularly through the experiences and perspectives of young people.

Panelists are UN Youth delegate Adina Nivukoski, PhD Julian Honkasalo, Member of the Youth Advisory Council of Plan International Nepal Smarika Pokharel. The event is hosted by Kelly Keodara.

Finland awards an international gender equality actor every two years

The International Gender Equality Prize is a recognition granted by the Finnish Government to an individual or actor who has made a significant international contribution to promoting gender equality. In 2025, the prize amount is 300,000 euros, and the award will be presented by Prime Minister Petteri Orpo at the Tampere Old City Hall. The City of Tampere has hosted the prize since its establishment and has highlighted the city’s principles of equality and non-discrimination also on an international level.

The award ceremony can be followed live on Yle Areena from 17:30 onwards.
