The City of Tampere supports the regular, open-to-all activities of local organisations through its general grants scheme.
The application period for 2027 general grants opens on 14 September 2026 and closes at 3.45 pm on Wednesday 14 October 2026. Applications and all required attachments must be submitted by the deadline. Late applications will not be considered.
General grants must be applied for using an electronic application form. The application form, together with information on applying for, awarding and reporting on grants, is available on the dedicated webpages for each grant category.
– This year, the application period for general grants has been brought forward in response to requests from local organisations. This will allow grant recipients to receive their funding earlier in the operational year, says Susanna Lundström, Planning officer responsible for coordinating the City’s grant programme.
Information about applying for general grants will be provided at an information session held in the ground-floor facilities of City Hall (Aleksis Kiven katu 14–16 C) on Wednesday 16 September 2026 from 5.30 pm to 7 pm.
The information session is open to anyone interested in the City of Tampere’s grant programme. No registration is required. Coffee will be available for the first 80 participants.
– At the session, we will explain the general grants programme and the application process, and answer applicants’ questions. We will also present updates to the City of Tampere’s general principles for grants and scholarships, says Susanna Lundström.
– The updated principles specify more clearly which expenses cannot be covered by City grants. For example, grants may no longer be used for an association’s fundraising activities, member gifts or hospitality, or the purchase of alcohol. In future, trips outside Tampere will only be supported when there are justified grounds for doing so, Lundström continues.
– Organisations will also not be eligible for a new grant if they have failed to submit the required report on the use of a previous grant by the specified deadline.
The City of Tampere’s general grants are available to registered associations, non-profit cooperatives and non-profit enterprises that have been operating for at least one year.
General grants may be awarded for regular activities that are open to everyone and take place in Tampere. Grants are not available for profit-making business activities or the practice of religion.
General grants can be applied for in the following categories:
Decisions on general grants are made by the Culture and Leisure Committee. Decisions on grants for animal welfare work are made by the Regional Environmental Health Subcommittee of the City Planning and Infrastructure Services Committee. Grant decisions are expected to be made around the turn of the year 2026–2027.
