The lecture series Preparedness and Protection – 72 Hours (Varautuminen ja suojautuminen – 72 tuntia) opens with researcher Tarja Ojala's lecture Safe and accident-free life on Thursday, 2 October 2025, from 17:00 to 18:30. In emergencies, it is recommended to be prepared to manage at home for three days without electricity, water supply, or access to shops. The lecture explores everyday safety and preparedness in both normal and disrupted situations. Special attention is given to assisting individuals who require additional support.
The second lecture, Housing safety and civil protection shelters, takes place on Thursday, 9 October 2025, from 17:00 to 18:30. Aleksei Kyrölä from the Häme Rescue Association (Hämeen Pelastusliitto) will guide the audience through home safety factors, civil protection regulations, and guidelines. Residents also have responsibilities and obligations related to housing safety. What should be considered to ensure the safest possible living conditions?
The final lecture in the series is on Thursday, 16 October 2025, from 17:00 to 18:30, presented by Tommi Mattila, Preparedness Manager at the Finnish Red Cross. The lecture focuses on Voluntary Rescue Service (Vapepa), a network of over 50 organizations and partners whose alert groups support authorities during accidents and other crisis situations. You’ll learn about Vapepa’s operations and how you can join the nationwide network of helpers.
In addition to the lecture, Sampola will host demonstration and activity stations where participants can practice essential skills such as stopping bleeding and using a defibrillator.
The Preparedness and Protection – 72 Hours lecture series is open to all and free of charge. No registration is required. Lectures are available on-site at Sampola Auditorium and will not be streamed or recorded.
