You can check the temperature and algae data for Tampere's swimming waters on the map service

As was the case last summer, you can check up-to-date water temperature data for Tampere’s beaches from 1 June through 9 August via the Outdoor Sports Conditions Service, which also provides information on blue-green algae conditions at the beaches.

Tampere has 13 public beaches and 19 smaller swimming spots. Härmälä beach has recently opened as a new destination. Tampereen Infra provides the information for the map service and conducts regular inspections at the beaches. These inspections monitor the condition and cleanliness of beach facilities, as well as water temperature and the presence of blue-green algae. Blue-green algae are monitored visually. Data on water temperature and blue-green algae are updated in the Outdoor Sports Conditions Service most frequently for the busiest beaches, but also for smaller swimming spots as inspections are conducted there.

During the summer, three to four water samples are taken from each beach, depending on the number of visitors. These water samples are analyzed for hygienic water quality, specifically the level of fecal bacteria. The City of Tampere’s Health Protection Unit monitors water quality at swimming beaches. In Tampere, beach inspections and water sampling are carried out by Tampereen Infra. The results of the water samples are brought to the beaches, and if algae are detected, a separate warning sign is always posted at the beach.

Summer cleaners have been hired for the busiest beaches and work there on weekdays. At Pyynikki beach, lifeguards work on weekdays from 10:30 am to 6:00 pm. Beach changing rooms and restrooms are generally open daily from 7:00 am. to 8:00 pm.
