Pirkanmaa Safety Survey launches across Pirkanmaa – Collecting residents’ experiences to support regional and local security and safety work
The Pirkanmaa Wellbeing County launches a region-wide Safety Survey across Pirkanmaa on 11 May 2026 to examine how residents perceive safety in their everyday lives and neighborhoods. This is the first Safety Survey to cover the entire Pirkanmaa region.
The City of Tampere has previously conducted the survey independently approximately every three years. This new implementation model enables the safety experiences of residents in different municipalities across Pirkanmaa to be gathered in a consistent way.
The survey collects residents’ views and experiences related to everyday safety, crime, disturbances, feelings of safety and security, accidents, and preparedness. It also includes a separate section concerning experiences of domestic and intimate partner violence.
Residents’ experiences complement official statistics and registry-based information collected by authorities. Not all phenomena affecting everyday safety are reflected in official statistics, which is why experiential information contributes significantly to the overall situational awareness of regional safety and security.
The survey will be conducted online and is open to all residents of Pirkanmaa. Responses will be collected anonymously at the municipality and postal code level.
The survey is open until 31 May 2026. Completing it takes approximately 15 minutes. You may respond in Finnish or English.
Results at the postal code level will only be shared confidentially among authorities, municipalities, and other key stakeholders. The findings will later be published publicly both as a Pirkanmaa-wide overview and as municipality-specific results.
The Pirkanmaa Safety Survey is a project implemented by the Pirkanmaa Wellbeing Services County and is partially funded by the Ministry of Justice. In the future, the survey is intended to be conducted in Pirkanmaa approximately every three years to support long-term monitoring and collaborative development of regional safety and security.
