Tampere’s event and cultural sector calls for support in service development, sales, and reaching international audiences
The Pirkanmaa Event and Culture Barometer survey was carried out for the fourth time in autumn 2025, with 75% of respondents based in Tampere. Supporting the experience economy is one of the City of Tampere’s strategic priorities, and the survey is conducted regularly to monitor progress toward this goal. The survey was aimed at professionals working in the event and cultural sectors and assessed the operating conditions, development needs, and satisfaction with municipal services among event organizers, associations, and creative industry actors in the region.
According to respondents, Tampere’s overall rating as an event and cultural city is average and has declined slightly compared to previous years. In terms of skills development, respondents expressed a need for support in productizing and selling cultural and artistic services, applying for funding, and reaching international audiences.
The survey results show relatively strong performance in expertise and practices related to event permits, operating in line with sustainable development principles, and promoting equality and inclusion of minorities.
Survey Results Guide Future Development Work
- The survey provided us with a valuable overview of the current situation in the event and cultural sectors. The decline in operators’ financial situation and working conditions was particularly evident in this year’s responses. In the open-ended answers, Tampere’s interim space model (Välitilamalli) received positive feedback. Nevertheless, the shortage of working and rehearsal spaces continues to challenge the creative sector, says Development Manager Anna Szalay.
As the survey has now been conducted for the fourth time, it enables data comparison over time and monitoring of development trends. The results will serve as a basis for future development work in the event and cultural sectors.
