Tampere has 14 public swimming beaches and 18 smaller beach sites. Regular inspections of the beaches are carried out by Tampere Infra, which forwards the information to the Outdoor Sports Conditions Service.
In addition to water temperature and possible blue-green algae, the inspections also monitor the condition and cleanliness of beach equipment. Swimming water temperature and blue-green algae data are updated by the Outdoor Sports Service for the busiest beaches, but inspections are also carried out at smaller beach sites. Temperature measurements will be taken until 10 August.
Between three and four samples of bathing water are taken from beaches during the summer, depending on the number of visitors to the beach. These samples are used to test the hygienic quality of the water, that is the level of intestinal bacteria.
The results of the water samples are sent to the beaches and published on the website of the City of Tampere. A warning sign is always placed on the beach if blue-green algae are detected. The water quality at the beaches is monitored by the City of Tampere Health Protection Unit.
The summer season brings changes to the opening hours of services and public transport timetables. Summer opening times can be found via the links on the Summer memo page and on the services' own websites. The Summer memo also contains some good tips for spending your summer days.
