Temperature and algae data for Tampere's bathing waters can be monitored via the map-based conditions service

As last summer, up-to-date bathing water temperature data for Tampere beaches can be monitored from 2 June to 10 August at the Outdoor Sports Conditions Service, which also provides information on the blue-green algae situation at the beaches.

Tampere has 14 public bathing areas and 18 smaller bathing sites. The information for the map service is provided by Tampereen Infra, which carries out regular inspections of the beaches. These inspections monitor the condition of beach equipment, cleanliness, water temperature and possible blue-green algae. Blue-green algae are monitored by sensory means. Bathing water temperature and blue-green algae data are updated by the Outdoor Sports Conditions Service more frequently for the busiest beaches, but also for smaller bathing sites, whenever they are inspected.

Between three and four samples of bathing water are taken from beaches each summer, depending on the number of visitors to the beach. The water samples are analysed for their hygienic quality, i.e. the level of intestinal bacteria. The water quality at the beaches is monitored by the Health Protection Services of the City of Tampere.

In Tampere, visits to the beaches are carried out and water samples are taken by Tampereen Infra. Water sample results are posted on the beaches and on the City of Tampere website. A warning sign is always placed on the beach if algae are detected.

Lifeguards at Pyynikki beach - summer cleaners at other beaches

Summer cleaners have been hired to work on the busiest beaches on weekdays. At Pyynikki beach, lifeguards work on weekdays from 10.30 am to 6 pm. The changing rooms and toilets are generally open daily from 7 am to 8 pm.

Changes at Alasjärvi and Rauhaniemi beaches

This summer, there will be several construction sites in the vicinity of the beaches, which will affect access to the beaches. The biggest changes are the street renovations in the vicinity of Alasjärvi and Rauhaniemi. When visiting these beaches, it is a good idea to take more time than usual and to teach children how to move safely around the beach. It is also worth noting that the number of parking spaces on the beaches is more limited than usual, so that on warm summer days, congestion can hamper the smooth running of a day at the beach. In Rauhaniemi, only the beach on the winter swimming side is available during the summer due to temporary works.

New jetties during the bathing season on Lakes Hervantajärvi and Särkijärvi

The jetties at Lake Hervantajärvi and Lake Särkijärvi were renovated in the spring and the beaches were also refurbished. The old and dilapidated jetty on the Multisilta side of Peltolammi has been demolished and the need for a new jetty will be assessed during the summer. Multisilta beach will also be closed for parking due to the renovation of the outdoor recreation network; the nearest beach with parking is Peltolammi beach on the opposite shore of the lake.
