The health protection authority of the City of Tampere, in cooperation with Tampere Water, has investigated the quality of the water supply in connection with the Pyynikki's stomach flu outbreak. No pathogenic bacteria were detected in the samples taken on Wednesday 30.4.2025. The water samples were taken as a precautionary measure as part of the outbreak investigation.
The City of Tampere Environmental Health and Pirha's Communicable Disease Control are continuing to investigate the cause of the outbreak. In total, Environmental Health has received around 300 reports of cases. Most of the cases in Pyyniki will occur between 27 and 28 April 2025.
In recent days, the food and health protection authorities of the City of Tampere have been investigating the stomach flu epidemic, which is particularly concentrated in the Pyynikki area. The outbreak is probably caused by a virus, but investigations into the cause are still ongoing. They are also still investigating whether this is a normal outbreak, concentrated in a small area for one reason or another, or whether there may be a common source of infection.
Cases and possible suspicions of having stomach flu can still be reported at [email protected].
At this stage, Public Health would like to thank the public for the information they have provided to help with the investigation of the outbreak.
The next announcement will be made on Friday 2 May 2025 in the afternoon.
