The Sara Hildén Academy, the visual arts school of the Adult Education Centre of the Tampere Region, will host an open house on Wednesday, 20 May 2026, from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. The event includes a lesson where children and young people can try what it is like to take part in a visual arts class. Visual arts teachers will be present to guide the activities, and participants can also explore the teaching facilities.
The open house is free of charge, but advance registration is required by Sunday, 17 May 2026. The event will take place at the Sara Hildén Academy premises in Koivistonkylä.
– Participants are welcome to attend together with a parent or other adult. At the same time, guardians can learn more about hobbies and studies at the Sara Hildén Academy in general. However, actual studies at the visual arts school take place without a parent, says Heidi Saramäki, assistant principal responsible for basic education in the arts.
Basic education in the visual arts provides students with the ability to express themselves visually and develops imagination, a sense of nuance, and the ability to see multiple creative solutions to problems.
Through play, experimentation and diverse practices, students develop their visual perception, thinking, expression and interpretative skills.
– The aim is to inspire a long-term hobby that provides a strong foundation for professional studies in the visual arts. The studies also support the growth of children and young people, the development of self-awareness and cultural competence, Saramäki adds.
Applications to the Sara Hildén Academy are open to children and young people born between 2012 and 2019. In addition to visual arts, applicants can also apply for basic education in literary art and theatre art. The application period for all disciplines ends on 31 May 2026.
