The Pirkkala–Linnainmaa alliance of Tampere Tramway informs: Traffic lights will go into operation at the intersection of Hatanpään valtatie and Tampereen valtatie on Friday, 11 September.

A temporary pedestrian and cycling bridge across the Tammerkoski rapids, built as part of the Valssipadonraitti renewal, will open to traffic on Tuesday 7 July 2026. The piling work was completed before Midsummer, and the bridge deck, railings and lighting structures were finalised during last week.

The Särkänsilta Bridge, connecting Mustanlahti Harbor and the Särkänniemi area, will open on Midsummer’s Thursday, 18 June, at 12:00 p.m. Deputy Mayor Johanna Kirjavainen will open the bridge to pedestrian traffic.

The construction of a temporary bridge for pedestrians and cyclists across the Tammerkoski rapids, to replace Valssipadonraitti during its renovation, will begin on Monday 15 June.

Construction of Valssipadonraitti will begin on Wednesday, 3 June 2026. Valssipadonraitti will be closed to traffic, and pedestrian and bicycle traffic will be redirected to alternative routes.

The Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency informs that the renewal of the Tampere railway station area -project will close the Itsenäisyydenkatu underpass to all traffic except the tramway from 1 June 2026. The closure will last until the completion of the project in 2031. Over the next few years, the Tampere railway station area will undergo a major transformation.

The Kalevantie general plan has examined Kalevantie between Sorinsilta and Yliopistonkatu, Sorinsilta as a whole and Vuolteenkatu between Sori Square (Sorin aukio) and Rautatienkatu.

The widening of the Frenckell bridges will improve pedestrian and cyclist access along Valssipadonraitti in the future, as the route will become part of the city’s main cycling network.

Tampere is about to embark on another major urban development project as work begins on the Yliopistontunneli tunnel.
