Basic education in the arts offers a long-term pathway in hobby-based learning, where the focus is on hands-on work, creative expression and learning together. The studies progress from one level to another and encourage students to develop their own expression across different art forms.
At the visual arts school, Sara Hildén Academy, students work with a wide range of techniques such as drawing, painting and construction. The teaching develops visual thinking, imagination and self-expression. Children born in 2019 can apply for first-year groups, and those born between 2012 and 2018 can apply for available places in groups corresponding to their age.
The literary arts school develops reading and writing skills while strengthening imagination and thinking skills. Students write their own texts and practise self-expression in a supportive group environment. Children aged 8–15 can apply according to their age group.
In theatre arts, students are introduced to different areas of theatre, such as acting, scriptwriting and the creation of performances. The studies strengthen self-expression, interaction skills and the ability to work in a group. Young people aged 9–17 can apply according to their age group.
The studies are conducted in Finnish.
Guardians will be informed of student placements during June. If necessary, a supplementary application round will be organised in August for available places. The studies begin in August–September.
