What kind of park is it?

Massunlastenpuisto Park is located in Ranta-Tampella, west of the Naistenlahti Marina. On its southern edge, the park is bordered by Ranta-Tampellan katu and Kekkosenkatu. The park was completed between 2021 and 2022.

For leisure activities, the park offers game and lounging lawns, a petanque court, various seating and sunbathing areas, sitting and swing groups, a public toilet, and a large pier with swimming steps beside it. The design takes into account users of all ages as well as accessibility. A kiosk was also opened in the park in summer 2022.

The park’s routes are part of Tampere’s wider waterfront trail network. A service and pedestrian connection to the Lapinniemi marina and breakwater serves boaters.

In Massunlastenpuisto Park, the terrain and shoreline embankment have been shaped using surplus soil and materials from the area. Circular economy principles have also played a visible role in other material choices in the park.

For example, old paving stones have been reused and the shoreline embankments are built from rock blasted during the construction of the Rantatunneli.

Planting

In addition to its activities, the park offers a rich variety of plant species to enjoy. As many as 70,000 flower bulbs have been planted in the park.

The guiding principles for the planting areas have been a diverse range of species, promoting urban biodiversity, visual appeal across the seasons, and emphasizing the waterfront atmosphere.
