Tampere city bike season has come to an end – record number of trips were made

Tampere city bikes have gone into hibernation for the winter. During the 2026 season, 280,000 trips were made on the bikes, which is 19 per cent more than in 2025. Sales of single-trip fees and season passes also increased.

Station network expanded and usage increased

A record 280 000 trips were made on city bikes during the season. On average, each bike was used for two trips a day. The busiest month was August, when the total number of trips exceeded 50 000. This is the city bike service’s monthly record to date. Since the service began, Tampere city bikes have now been used for over one million trips.

A total of over 17 000 passes were sold. The biggest increase was seen in sales of single-trip fees and season passes. A total of 8 400 single-trip fees were sold – 18 per cent more than in 2025 – and 3 400 season passes – 17 per cent more. There were 3 000 day passes and 2 400 monthly passes sold.

The busiest city bike stations were in the city centre and the Kaleva area. Around 60 new stations were opened in these areas.

- The expansion of the station network in the city centre and the Kaleva area was the most significant change this season. At the same time, the use of city bikes and sales of access passes increased, whilst user satisfaction with the service remained high. City bikes have established themselves as an integral part of getting around Tampere, says public transport director Mika Periviita.

The expansion of the station network was reflected in customer satisfaction

The city bike service receives excellent ratings from its users. According to a customer satisfaction survey carried out in October, satisfaction with the service remained at the same level as in the 2025 season. The expansion of the station network was reflected in the survey results. Users were more satisfied than before with the locations of the city bike stations. However, satisfaction with the availability of bikes fell. The most praise was given to the affordability and clarity of the usage fees.

The willingness to recommend the city bike service remained at a high level (NPS 55).

A total of 136 people responded to the survey. Of these, 57 per cent had purchased a usage pass during the 2026 season.

The next city bike season begins on 15 April 2027.
