The first of the new accessible fishing platforms to be built in Tampere has been completed at Lake Suolijärvi in Hervanta. The fishing platform is situated along the Mielenreitti trail. The route is 2.3 kilometres long in total, including a 1.7 kilometre demanding accessible section. The trail enables people of all abilities to enjoy nature and outdoor activities.
The nearest bus stop is approximately 600 metres from the fishing platform. For visitors arriving by public transport, the most challenging section is the steep downhill stretch between the bus stop and the beach parking area, with an elevation change of around 15 metres over a distance of 200 metres. The parking area has an asphalt surface.
– From the parking area to the platform, the distance is approximately 400 metres. The elevation change is about seven metres and is distributed fairly evenly along the route. The path is accessible, for example, by wheelchair, says accessibility specialist Erkka Ikonen of EcoFellows Ltd.
The platform can be accessed directly from ground level and is equipped with benches. A lower section of the safety railing allows visitors to fish comfortably while seated. According to Ikonen, the new platform complements the services available along the Mielenreitti trail.
– Residents have expressed a need for accessible fishing locations across different parts of the city. These new platforms will help meet that demand already during autumn 2026.
