Hervanta – District of the Year
In May, the Finnish Local Heritage Federation selected Hervanta as the District of the Year for 2026. The City of Tampere is celebrating the selection with Hervanta residents by offering coffee and cake for 300 people at the at the Hervanta Leisure Centre´s cafe. The theme of this year’s “District of the Year” competition was “a neighbourhood for everyone.” “Hervanta’s strength lies in its diverse and active community. The area is home to many associations, educational institutions, and community groups, all of which make Hervanta a place where everyone can find their own way to participate and feel like they belong,” says Sini Lempinen, Coordinator of Neighbourhood Development.
Activities for the whole family
In addition to cake and refreshments, the event offers a variety of activities. Magician Marko will be performing; his show begins at 5:30 p.m. There will also be close-up magic, character balloons for children, and a creative writing workshop hosted by the Sanataideyhdistys Yöstäjä ry, where participants will write a poem dedicated to Hervanta. Popular Hervanta canvas bags will also be handed out to participants as long as there are enough of them.
Get to know the upcoming community space
The event will also showcase the new community space opening at the Hervanta Leisure Centre, which will launch later this fall under the coordination of Setlementti Tampere Ry. - The upcoming community space will offer Hervanta residents the opportunity to meet one another, participate in activities, and spend time together in a low-threshold setting. We want to build these activities based on the needs and wishes of the people in the area, says Jaakko Laurila, program manager for the Tampere for All development programme.
Also participating in the event are the Deafblind Association of Finland’s activity center, A-Kilta, and Lujaksi ry.
The event is free of charge and open to everyone. Safe space principles will be observed at the event.
Hervanta is one of the target areas in the City of Tampere’s 2026–2029 neighbourhood development program, and its development is receiving special attention.
