Santalahti pedestrian bridge and stair tower to be closed overnight

The pedestrian bridge and stair tower connecting Pispala and Santalahti will be closed overnight from midnight 12 am to 5 am starting Thursday 18 June 2026. The night-time closure is due to repeated acts of vandalism targeting the route. During the daytime, the route will remain open as normal.

The overpass bridge and stair tower linking Pispala and Santalahti will in future be closed at night. A gate has been installed on the Santalahti pedestrian bridge and will be closed daily from midnight 12 am to 5 am. In addition, the lower doors of the stair tower have been locked.

– The aim of the solution is to reduce the repeated vandalism affecting the structures. However, it will still be possible to use the route late into the evening before the closure begins, says Construction Director Milko Tietäväinen.

The lift in the Santalahti stair tower is part of an accessible pedestrian route between Pispalan valtatie and Santalahti. The bridge cannot be used at night, but during the day the route will remain open as usual.
