Contest for New Music (UMK) causes exceptions to traffic arrangements in the Sori area on February 28, 2026

The 2026 UMK will be held at Nokia Arena in Tampere. A large audience is expected to attend the dress rehearsal and evening show on Saturday, February 28. To ensure that the event runs smoothly and safely, changes will be made to the traffic arrangements for motor vehicles on the streets in the vicinity of the arena. Unnecessary traffic in the area should also be avoided outside the times when the streets are closed.

Traffic restrictions will be in place on Saturday, February 28, 2026, as follows:

  • From 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., motor vehicle traffic will be prohibited in the immediate vicinity of the arena.
  • From 10:30 p.m. to midnight, motor vehicle traffic will be prohibited in the immediate vicinity of the arena.

If necessary, the police may also order the closure of the area during the event.

Motor vehicle traffic will be restricted in the vicinity of Nokia Arena

When approaching from Ratina, traffic will be restricted at the intersection of Vuolteenkatu and Hatanpään valtatie, with motor vehicle access closed from Tampereen valtatie or Hatanpään valtatie via Vuolteenkatu to Sorinsilta, Kalevantie, Rautatienkatu, and Sorinkatu. Rautatienkatu can be accessed either via Suvantokatu or Verkatehtaankatu.

Rautatienkatu will be closed south of Suvantokatu, allowing motor vehicle traffic to access Hatanpään valtatie via Otavalankatu, Tuomiokirkonkatu, Verkatehtaankatu, and Aleksanterinkatu.

Motor vehicles are prohibited from driving on Vuolteenkatu, Sorinkatu, and Rautatienkatu when approaching from the university. Traffic on Kalevantie will be directed via Kanslerinrinne to Ratapihankatu. When driving on Kanslerinrinne from Ratapihankatu, turning is only permitted in the direction of Kaleva.

On Sorinkatu, the use of motor vehicles is restricted from the Tampereen valtatie junction onwards. Residential and service traffic, as well as driving to property yards and parking spaces and the arena parking garage, is permitted.

A separate area will be designated for wheelchair users to drop off and pick up passengers near the Sorinkatu elevator connection. There are a limited number of parking spaces for people with reduced mobility on Sorinkatu.

The traffic changes will also affect Nysse's route arrangements, which will be announced on Nysse's website.

The lane for pedestrians and cyclists on the Nokia Arena side of the Sorinsilta bridge will be converted into a sidewalk during closures, if necessary. The arena area is best accessed on foot.
