Implementation plan for public transport strategy 2026–2029 approved

The Tampere City Region Public Transport Committee has approved a strategic implementation plan for 2026–2029, which will guide the development of public transport in the coming years. The aim of the plan is to support long-term and sustainable development and to ensure that public transport meets the growing needs of the region.

Development priorities for 2026–2029

The main priorities of the implementation plan relate to strengthening sustainable mobility. The key priority projects are:

  • Launching and implementing superbus transport, including the introduction of a service concept and related infrastructure.
  • Planning the extension of the tramway towards Ylöjärvi and Vuores.
  • Preparing for the national rail reform, which will change the organization of train traffic in the 2030s. In the Tampere region, this means developing local train traffic and its operating environment.

In addition, the plan includes measures to strengthen the well-being, renewal capacity, and expertise of the personnel, balance the economy, and develop public transport services in collaboration with city residents and partners.

The progress of the measures will be closely monitored: progress reports will be submitted to the committee three times a year.
