A new branch of Tampere City Library will open to the public on Monday, 10 November. Vuores Library is located in Vuores-talo, which also houses a school, daycare, maternity clinic, dental clinic, and youth services. The library is on the first floor of the building, with accessible entry from the main entrance.
The new library has been designed with customer wishes in mind, utilizing the compact and bright former school library space. The official opening celebration will take place later in the autumn, but all library services will be available to registered self-service users from the opening day.
“It’s wonderful to finally open the long-awaited library in Vuores. The collection is fresh and up-to-date, with a special focus on the needs of families with children and school-aged users. We hope future Vuores Library customers will remember to register as self-service users well in advance of their visit, so the registration can be processed in time,” says Suvi Vilenius, Head of Library Services at Tampere City Library.
Vuores-talo is a shoe-free building, so visitors must remove their outdoor shoes at the entrance. Strollers can be left in the designated parking area or fitted with protective covers.
Starting November 7, Vuores Library can be selected as a pickup location for reservations in the PIKI online library. You can also change the pickup location of existing reservations via the Reservations page in your account.
The opening of Vuores Library will affect local mobile library stops starting 17 November. The Kustaa mobile library will discontinue its stop at Vuores School and four evening stops: Vuoreksen Puistokatu, Mäyränmäenkatu, Rautiolanrinne, and Koukkuaurankatu. These stops will be replaced with new ones elsewhere in Tampere. Mobile library routes and schedules can be found at tampere.fi/en/mobilelibraries.
Self-Service Opening Hours: Afternoons, Evenings, and Weekends
Vuores Library operates as a self-service library, with opening hours focused on afternoons, evenings, and weekends. The evening emphasis is due to other activities in the building. During the day, the library is used by the school and early childhood education. For other customers, the library is open on weekday afternoons and evenings, when the building also hosts hobby activities and sports staff can monitor access in the lobby. Evening hours were also requested by customers.
There is no regular staff presence at Vuores Library, but customers can borrow and return items using self-service machines, pick up reservations, read newspapers, or work in the library space. Computers, Wi-Fi, and a multifunction device for printing, copying, and scanning are available. There are no payment services at Vuores Library, so printing balances cannot be loaded, nor can library fees be paid.
During self-service hours, entry is granted with a PIKI library card and its PIN code. Customers must log in at both the main entrance of Vuores-talo and the library door. Since early September, all users of self-service libraries must be registered as self-service customers. One registration allows access to all self-service libraries in Tampere. Registration can be done online or at libraries with customer service. Registration forms are processed within approximately one day.
