Family exercise - the joy of exercise and togetherness

Family exercise offers families in Tampere free, low-threshold exercise, where the main focus is on togetherness, joy and well-being.

Get to know lean-tos trips offer families the chance to spend time together in the peace and quiet of nature.

By autumn 2025, Family exercise will be even more varied, and all families who want to exercise in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere are welcome to join in. The activity offers plenty of opportunities to move, play and spend time together, and is also a great way to meet other families and make new friends.

Family exercise groups are organised in different parts of Tampere in cooperation with local sports clubs, city departments and family activities. The activities are free of charge and easily accessible - you can join in without any previous experience. The most important thing is the desire to move and spend time together.

Family exercise invites you to join the autumn 2025 activities

The autumn programme offers familiar favourites and new experiences. Laura Kostiainen, Family exercise Sports Coordinator, says that the current programme includes Get to know lean-tos trips, where families can get to know Tampere's nearby lakes and hiking destinations.

– The events are a great way to enjoy nature, eat snacks and spend time together without being in a hurry. The excursions are suitable for all ages and are an excellent way to get to know the local nature in a safe and guided way, says Kostiainen.

This year's destinations are Niihama hut on 14 September, Makkarajärvi/Viitastenperä lean-to on 28 September and Kirskaanniemi lean-to on 11 October.

The autumn season of Family exercise will be full of many familiar and fun activities, but there will also be new ones. For example, the new Family circus, which many families have been asking for, is aimed at children in early childhood education and their families, and the Family parkour for primary school children and their families. Many familiar classes have also been added to the autumn programme in more areas.

– Our Family activity classes are also popular, giving children and adults a chance to try out different types of sports equipment and tricks together. These events are all about moving for fun - no competition, no pressure to perform, just doing things together and experiencing success. They develop children's motor skills and give adults a chance to play too.

Family exercise also offers the opportunity to take your baby with you for a workout, with Mother-Baby Pilates classes for baby families and a Parent & Baby gym class in the Nääshalli Sports Hall on Fridays.

Registration and participation

We aim to bring activities as close to families as possible to make participation easy and hassle-free. For example, Get to know lean-tos trips are organised to local parks in different parts of the city, and indoor exercise classes are held in school gyms and other sports facilities across the city.

Registration for the autumn Family exercise groups started in August.

– The most popular groups filled up quickly, but there are still places available for the autumn season. At the moment, there is still room to enrol in the Somersault trick classes, Family circus and Family activity classes, and registration for the second Mother-Baby Pilates class opens on 23 September, says Kostiainen.

Registration is through the city's online system, and participation is free for all. For many events, such as the Get to know lean-tos trips, there is no need to register in advance.

Family exercise offers a unique opportunity to spend quality time with the family, to move in a relaxed way and to develop both physical and social skills.

– Family exercise supports children's development, strengthens family relationships and brings joy to everyday life. It is also a great way to meet new people and find a community where everyone is welcome just as they are, says Laura Kostiainen.

Family exercise groups and services can be found at the Family exercise website and in the registration system.
