Haihara Puppet Theatre is organising the 21st edition of the Children's Night of Arts on Fri 8.8. at 18-21! Children's Art Night is a fun event for the whole family, where you can enjoy the performances and make art yourself. There will be puppetry, music, a community art workshop, pranks, giant bubbles, face painting and a fantastic performance by Maltti and Valtti.
Saturday 9 August is the national celebration of Tove Jansson Day. The same day is the birthday of Gunvor Grahn, the last mistress of Haihara Manor. She founded a puppet and costume museum in the area and the Haihara Puppet Theatre, the oldest still operating in Finland. The birthdays will be celebrated with a paper flower weaving workshop and poems written by Gunvor. The workshop will be held at Valjasvaja from 13-16 and the poems will be performed in the puppet theatre at 12.30 and 15.30.
Haihara's art exhibitions will be on display until 24 August. The manor houses a multi-faceted exhibition by the multinational museum and artists' group Plusmiinus. The stable will be shared by Haihara's German artist-in-residence Simon Ertel with his exhibition Eyes in the Bark and the Watan Friendship Association, which will present the ancient Palestinian technique of tatreez writing. The exhibitions are open Tue-Sun 13-18.
The wildflower auction from July continues until Wed 20 Aug from 15-18 in the Manor Park. After the flea market, it's time to move on to enjoy the Park Concerts, which take place Wednesdays from 18-19 in the Valjasvajá until 20 August.
Theatre Lysti's summer hit play Apteekkarin näköinen mies will be performed on Sunday 10 August at 16.00 as part of the OFF programme of Tampere Theatre Summer. Price 20/15/10 €.
August culminates in an atmospheric picnic behind the Manor House on Fri 29 August from 18-21.Tables will be set up on the birch alley and guests are welcome to bring their own picnic basket full of snacks. There will also be a barbecue and grill on site for cooking your picnic. The Napolitan Duo and cellist Olga Moon will perform during the event. In case of rain, the event will be held inside the Manor.
The Haihara Coffee Chamber is open Tues-Sun 12-19 until 10 August, then from 11-31 August 12-18. The Runeberg Cottage craft and art shop is open Tues-Sun 12-18 until 24 August.
