This summer, the City of Tampere enjoyed park meals in seven different parks in Nekala, Peltolampi, Tesoma, Lielahti, Hervanta, Kaukajärvi and Linnainmaa.
This year, park meals were also extended to Linnainmaa, with an increase in the number of diners compared to last year. After five years of operation, the park meals have now reached families with children well and have become an important part of many families' summer holidays.
The aim of the park meals has been to support the daily lives of families with children while creating a sense of community with other families in the area. The programme for families and young people and the tasty meal attracted people from the area to spend their summer weekdays together, while at the same time enabling them to make new friends with other children and young people of the same age. The free meal was available to all children and young people under the age of 18.
The feedback collected shows appreciation for the good food, which is particularly tasty when eating out. One visitor describes it as "like going on a picnic with a friend every day". In addition to the food, the children praised the activities and the playing together, while the most boring part was the queuing.
The park meals were a joint effort between the City of Tampere and several partners. Alongside the city, the main implementers were TampereMissio in Kaukajärvi, SPR Tampere in Tesoma and Kansalaistalo Mansikkapaikka in Lielahti. In addition, many organisations, companies, city actors and private individuals provided a programme and assistance with food distribution. The City of Tampere thanks all the partners for their excellent cooperation.
