Mayor Ilmari Nurminen’s Programme: Our Tampere – Creating a future together

The Mayor’s Programme sets out guidelines for developing Tampere over the next four years. The programme emphasizes the vitality and equality of the city, balancing the finances and the well-being of residents.

The Mayor’s Programme highlights Tampere as a good city to live, reside and work in. The city is seen as diverse and equal. The importance of basic services for residents is emphasised, and investing in education is seen as an important investment in the future, even though the city’s finances are currently challenging. The objective is to achieve economic balance by 2029.

– It is crucial to ensure high-quality services and focus on people’s well-being through the decisions made under the Mayor’s Programme and when balancing the finances. Education is a resource for Tampere, and investing in education and teaching is an investment in the future, says Mayor Ilmari Nurminen.

The goal of the Mayor’s Programme is to improve the well-being of Tampere residents by, for example, creating a low-threshold network of community spaces, “Tamperelaisten Olkkarit” (Residents’ Living Rooms), which serve as meeting places for people of different ages and create well-being.

The programme seeks to further strengthen the vitality of Tampere and attract international companies and investments to the city. Promoting employment is a key part of the programme, and special attention will be paid to the employment and integration of the international population.

– Promoting employment is one of our key tasks in terms of both the balance of local government finances and people’s well-being. Our Tampere is also a growing city that safeguards the preconditions for a good life for future residents. We are committed to achieving carbon neutrality in 2030 and promoting biodiversity.

The Mayor’s Programme of Mayor Ilmari Nurminen covers the years 2025–2029 and summarises the views of the Mayor’s Coalition on the city’s course in the current council term. The Tampere Mayor’s Coalition consists of the council groups of SDP (Social Democratic Party of Finland), National Coalition Party and RKP (Swedish People’s Party of Finland), the Greens, Left Alliance and the Centre Party.
