Summer offers a huge variety of opportunities to get out and about. Swimming schools for children help you get used to the water and learn the basics of swimming. From 2 June onwards, swimming schools will be organised at the Tesoma, Pyynikki and Hervanta swimming pools and Tampere Outdoor Swimming Pool. In July, there are free beach swimming schools for children at the beaches of Kaukajärvi, Tohloppi, Pyynikki and also Suolijärvi in Hervanta. Registration for all summer swimming schools starts on Monday 19 May 2025 at 9 am.
Playground parties and park meals are available for families
This summer, family activities will be offered in Peltolammi, Vuores, city centre, Linnainmaa, Kaukajärvi, Nekala and Hervanta. The activities are open to all and free of charge, and groups do not need to be registered. Some of the family exercise facilities also offer City of Tampere park meals, where food is available free of charge for children under 18 years of age.
Events for families
An event for the well-being of expectant mothers and families with babies will take place on 10 June from 10 am to 12.30 pm at the Metso Main Library. The event will provide information for families on topics that contribute to the well-being of babies and parents. The Family Summer Day at the Tampere Outdoor Swimming Pool on 14 June from 12 noon to 3 pm will bring the whole family together with DJ Juissi to enjoy a sunny day by the water. Jekku the rabbit will also be there to keep the little ones in the family entertained. Entrance fee to the outdoor pool.
Free registration for youth groups from 19 May
The summer training sessions for young people are a great opportunity to try out the latest forms of exercise around the city, in a comfortable and safe environment. The summer sports programme is completely free of charge and aimed at 17–29-year-olds.
All groups are low-threshold groups, and the aim is to have fun, do things together and learn something new. You don't need a sports background or previous experience to join these groups. Enthusiasm, openness and a happy mind are a plus! Summer sports include fatbike, wakeboarding, SUP-boarding, padel, dance, basketball, beach volleyball and football.
Low-threshold gymnastics and fitness and health measurements
From 2 June onwards, groups will do light gymnastics in the parks and take walks around the city. For early risers, there's paid aqua gym at the outdoor pool on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 am to 8.30 am.
If you're wondering about your own endurance, you can come and test your fitness with an UKK walk test either on Monday 26 May in Hervanta (athletics field) at 10 am, in Sorsapuisto (by the birdcages) at 12 pm, in Tesoma (Tesoma Swimming Pool) at 2 pm or at Tampere Stadium at 4 pm.
The popular Health Fitness Measurement Day for 55–79-year-olds will take place on 27 May at the Tampere Stadium from 9 am to 11 am. The day will include a variety of tests to test mobility, muscle and compression strength and stamina. Registration for the free Health Fitness Measurement Day starts on 23 May at: liikkumaan.tampere.fi.
