Härmälä Library Opens on 23 April

The renovation of Härmälä Library is complete, and the library will open to customers on Wednesday, 23 April at 10:00 AM. The opening day ceremony will include a ribbon-cutting at 10:00, performed by long-time Härmälä library clerk Anjariitta Karjunen. The actual opening celebration with customers, including coffee service and a program, will take place a couple of weeks later, on Wednesday, 7 May.

Härmälä Library is located in the Härmälä school building, which underwent extensive technical and functional improvements from 2023 to 2025. The library received slightly larger premises during the renovation, and the entrance was moved to the Toivonkatu side.

"It's great to open Härmälä Library to customers, as we have already received inquiries and the library is clearly anticipated. In the renovated premises, I am particularly pleased that the original wall painting by Kauko Salmi is now fully visible to customers in the library hall," says Sylvia Stavén, Service Manager at Tampere City Library.

Härmälä Library can be selected as a pick-up location for reservations in the PIKI online library starting Monday, 21 April. Previously made reservations can also be changed to Härmälä Library on the Reservations page of your account in the online library.

The Talvitie stop for the mobile library will be discontinued when Härmälä Library opens to customers, and the mobile library will return to Villilä (Ratakistonkatu on Wednesdays from 16:00 to 16:20). During the renovation, the additional mobile library stop and the already closed Kuuselakeskus pick-up point strengthened library services in the Härmälä area.

Härmälä Library Opening Hours

Härmälä Library will have service hours from Monday to Friday. During service hours, the library doors are open, and staff is present.

In addition, the library will have extensive self-service hours, which will increase opening hours in the mornings and evenings and allow self-service library use on weekends as well. Self-service hours are aimed to be available from the opening, but the installation of self-service technology is still ongoing, and a slight delay is possible. During self-service hours, customers can enter the library with a PIKI library card and its PIN. There will be no staff present during self-service hours, but customers can borrow and return items using machines, pick up reservations, read newspapers, or work in the library premises.
