Neighbourhood Development

We ensure the vitality and equitable development of residential areas through Neighbourhood Development. We monitor their development and anticipate future development needs. In developing residential areas, we consider the following themes: services and vitality, housing, mobility and accessibility, schools and kindergartens, quality and pleasantness of the local environment, safety, integration, inclusion and community spirit, as well as the identity and reputation of the areas.

The four areas targeted for long-term development are Hervanta, Tesoma, Multisilta and Peltolammi, Kaukajärvi and Annala. These areas have been selected based on socioeconomic indicators, population size, and the identified need for broader cooperation. We develop these areas in collaboration with various city departments, The Wellbeing Services County of Pirkanmaa, local actors and residents.

Development of the target areas in the coming years

Neighbourhood development includes both long-term reforms and quick measures that can be implemented on short notice. See examples of how areas will develop in the coming years.

Participate in Neighbourhood Development

Residents and actors in the area can participate in the development of the neighbourhood through annual Tampere Residents’ Evenings and regional actor networks.

In the summer of 2024, we also asked residents in the target areas about their experiences of their neighbourhoods and their wishes for development.
