Help Shape the Home City of the World’s Only Moomin Museum – Join the Tampere Residents’ Panel

The City of Tampere is inviting residents to imagine new Moomin-inspired experiences, services and surprises. By joining the Tampere Resident’s Panel, they can share their ideas and help shape the future of the home city of the world’s only Moomin Museum.
People have gathered around the Groke at the Moomin Museum.
The Groke made an appearance at the opening of the Moomin Museum’s Moomin Mug Mania exhibition. Tampere residents now have the opportunity to help shape the city’s future Moomin experiences through the Tampere Residents’ Panel.

Tampere’s Moomin Vision aims to make the city an internationally recognised destination where Moomin stories come to life through urban development and a thriving experience economy. The Moomin Museum serves as the initiative’s cultural anchor.

What small details or bold ideas could make Tampere more memorable and bring joy to everyday life? Residents are invited to suggest new experiences, services and content inspired by the Moomins by joining the Tampere Resident’s Panel.

Participants can share what the Moomins mean to them, consider how they might appear in the cityscape and highlight priorities for creating Moomin-themed experiences.

– Guided by the Moomin Vision, we want to preserve Tove Jansson’s artistic legacy and promote values associated with the Moomins, including community, a spirit of adventure, tolerance and respect for nature. This work calls for diverse perspectives, curiosity and the courage to see the city with fresh eyes. We are keen to hear local people’s hopes and ideas - the best solutions are created together, said Anne-Mari Jussila, Deputy Mayor of Tampere and Chair of the Moomin Steering Group.

Ideas of All Sizes Are Welcome

The Tampere Resident’s Panel enables local people to help plan, develop and test municipal services and comment on matters under preparation. Operating mainly online, it allows each member to choose which surveys and activities to take part in.

– For the past year and a half, the panel has provided us with valuable insights and suggestions. We are delighted to involve its members in developing Tampere’s Moomin experiences and to welcome new Moomin fans, says Johanna Ahlgrén-Holappa, Head of Urban Knowledge.

The panel is open to everyone aged 16 or over. No specialist knowledge or previous experience of civic participation is needed—personal views and experiences are enough. The aim is to engage people of different ages and backgrounds from across Tampere. Their input will help ensure that future Moomin experiences better reflect local wishes and needs.

The Moomin-themed survey is open from 27.10. to 15.11.2026

Those interested in continued involvement can also register for the new Moomin Panel through the current survey. Its members will have further opportunities to contribute, including testing services and responding to future questionnaires.
