New feature in eVaka – you can now receive notifications on your mobile phone

On 21 October, the City of Tampere’s eVaka online service for early childhood education and care and pre-primary education will introduce a new feature in2026, a new feature will be introduced that allows guardians to receive notifications directly on their mobile phones if they wish.

Electronic notifications enable guardians to view, more quickly and easily than before, new messages, decisions, events and other up-to-date information relating to their child’s early childhood education and care or pre-primary education.

eVaka works in a web browser, so there’s no need to download a separate app. The service is available on both Android and iOS devices (iPhone, iPad).

What’s changing?

You can receive important notifications about your child’s early childhood education and care or pre-primary education directly on your phone.

You’ll receive a notification, for example, when:

  • an early childhood education and care centre sends a message or notice
  • attendance bookings are missing or a holiday enquiry is about to close
  • a new event is added to the calendar
  • you need to book a consultation or it is approaching
  • you receive a new decision or document

When you tap the notification, eVaka opens directly to the relevant section, such as the message or the calendar. On the Personal information page, you can choose for each type of notification whether it should be sent to your email, your phone, both, or neither. Email notifications work as before.

How to enable notifications

Android phone

1. If you have already added eVaka to your home screen, remove the old icon.

2. Open eVaka in the Chrome browser at https://varhaiskasvatus.tampere.fi and log in.

3. Tap "Add eVaka to home screen" when eVaka prompts you to do so. You can also select "Install app" or "Add to home screen" from the browser menu.

4. Open eVaka from the icon on your home screen.

5. Tap "Enable" and allow notifications when prompted by your phone.

We recommend using the Chrome browser on Android phones. On other browsers, the setup process may work differently, or the browser may display a warning about installing the app on your home screen.

iPhone or iPad

1. If you have already added eVaka to your home screen, remove the old icon.

2. Open eVaka in the Safari browser at https://varhaiskasvatus.tampere.fi and log in.

3. Tap the Share icon in the browser.

4. Scroll down the Share menu and select "Add to Home Screen". Tap "Add".

5. Open eVaka from the new icon on your home screen and log in again.

6. Tap "Enable" and allow notifications when prompted by your phone.

On an iPhone, notifications only work when you open eVaka from the icon on the home screen. Notifications do not work in a Safari tab.

Test the notifications by tapping “Send test notification”. You can also find instructions and settings later on the Personal information page.

You can find frequently asked questions about setting up electronic notifications via the link below on the eVaka Tampere online service.
